CIMB Cheque Guide: Writing, Cheque Books, and Clearing

Quick answer

CIMB cheques follow Malaysia's standard format: date at top right, payee's full name, ringgit-and-sen amount in words and matching figures, "A/C Payee Only" crossing for secure payment, and your specimen signature. Cheque books for CIMB current accounts are requested via a branch, the requisition slip, or CIMB Clicks where available, with RM 0.15 stamp duty per leaf. Deposited before cut-off, a CIMB cheque normally clears the next business day through eSPICK, and every cheque is valid for six months from its date.

Writing a CIMB cheque correctly

  1. Date the cheque top right; validity runs six months from this date.
  2. Payee: full account-title name, leftover space ruled through, "or bearer" struck for secure payments.
  3. Words: on the Ringgit Malaysia line, e.g. "Three Thousand Two Hundred And Sen Twenty Only", starting hard left, closed with "Only" and a strike-through.
  4. Figures: RM3,200.20 tight against the RM symbol.
  5. Crossing: "A/C Payee Only" between two parallel lines, top left, for account-only payment.
  6. Sign per your CIMB specimen; company accounts per the registered mandate and stamp requirements.
  7. No corrections anywhere. A spoiled leaf is cancelled and replaced; image clearing rejects alterations.

Requesting a CIMB cheque book

CIMB current account holders request new books through: the requisition slip inside the current book, any CIMB branch, or digital request via CIMB Clicks / the OCTO app where the facility is offered for the account type. Books are typically ready within about a week; stamp duty of RM 0.15 per leaf applies, plus any book charge on CIMB's current fee schedule.

Reorder when remaining leaves drop below two weeks of your normal usage; businesses caught bookless mid payment-run lose more than the duty ever cost.

CIMB cheque clearing and returns

CIMB cheques clear through eSPICK image clearing like all Malaysian banks: deposit before the cut-off and presentation happens that business day, with funds normally available the next business day; after cut-off shifts everything by a day, and weekends and public holidays pause the cycle.

Returns (insufficient funds, signature differs, alterations, stale or early-presented post-dated cheques, image-quality failures) carry charges per CIMB's fee schedule on the drawer's side and handling charges on the depositor's side, and repeated dishonours jeopardize the cheque facility.
